Tartare Sauce

I love tartare sauce - and hate the fact that since cholesterol-gate I have been trying to avoid dressings and sauces exactly like this - especially when eating out. However, this low fat recipe for tartare sauce uses mostly fat free yoghurt - and only a little homemade mayonnaise (which I still maintain is much better for you than most mayonnaise products you can buy in a jar commercially - with a few exceptions) - and it tastes absolutely delicious; you'd definitely never know it was low in cholesterol! This is a great tartare sauce to go with fish cakes or grilled fish, and I'd thoroughly recommend it as a low fat dressing...

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Homemade Mayonnaise
  • 3 or 4 tbsp Zero Fat Yoghurt
  • 1 Lemon
  • 2 tsp Capers
  • 2 tsp Cornichons or Gherkins
  • 2 tsp Red Onion
  • Half a clove Garlic

Crush half a clove of Garlic

Very finely chop the Capers, Cornichons, Red Onions

Zest half the Lemon

In a bowl, mix the Mayonnaise, the Fat Free Yoghurt, the chopped Capers, Cornichons, Red Onion, crushed Garlic, Lemon Zest, a large squeeze of the Lemon

Add some Black Pepper – stir and taste for seasoning

You may want to add some Lemon juice – or some extra Capers etc?

Serve with chopped Parsley
